Gelato isn’t the easiest weed strain to grow, but that doesn’t mean it’s flat-out impossible. Due to its diverse genes, the strain is fairly resistant to pests, and there’s enough space between the branches and plant forms, so trimming is also rarely necessary.

Here’s where the difficulty comes in. Gelato plants are very sensitive to temperature and humidity levels, which is where growers must pay attention. Gelato thrives in a hot, humid Mediterranean-like climate, so if you live in an area prone to steep seasonal changes, your best bet is growing the strain indoors.

It takes between 55 and 65 days for Gelato crops to flower indoors (September to mid-October for outdoor growers). Even though somewhat difficult to grow, Gelato provides generous yields that generate big buds rich in THC.

A main challenge of growing Gelato is finding seeds or clones. For a long time, Gelato seeds were not commercially available, meaning growers would need to obtain trimmings in order to cultivate clones. Although it’s relatively easier to obtain them now, this aspect may still prove a challenge for some growers.

The strain’s odor also makes itself known during the growing process, meaning indoor growers should definitely put odor control measures in place.
